Under OSIC initiative to ensure round-the-clock electricity at remotely located SC, ST ashram schools, 20 solar PV plants of 3 kWp capacity each have been installed recently by Free Spirits Green Labs in remotely located and inaccessible parts of Koraput district.
Frequent power cuts have been hampering studies of students for long. A few of them never saw the light bulb working in their schools at all. The project has benefitted approximately 4000 students in these schools by providing 4 to 5 hours of power backup.
List of Sevasharams where solar plants have been installed and commissioned are as following :
Block 1: Pottangi- Kotiya, Thuria, Laudi, Chandaka, Deopottangi, Gugaguda, Sambai, Pottangi High School
Block 2: Nandapur- Balda, Nandaka, Rukuba, Marda, Khuda, Bijapur
Block 3: Lakshmipur – Kundar, Panchada, Charada, Bhitargada, Champi, Kellar
During installation, one point of contact was identified in each school and has been provided with basic information on how to manage the system to provide immediate attention for maintenance, if needed. The use of renewable energy in schools will contribute to environmental sustainability and as well as promote the habit of energy conservation among school children.
In next phase, Free Spirits Green Labs plants to work closely with the schools to deliver practical exposure about Solar Energy technology and would further train and empower them to maintain the solar plant installations on their own.
The state government has also decided to connect all schools, hospitals, hostels, irrigation projects, drinking water supply projects, Panchayati raj institutions in un-served areas through solar energy.
